- This section lists the subsystems (and their sizes) of the
- Netscape Administration Server.
-
- If you are installing this software for the first time, the
- default subsystems are installed if you click the _I_n_s_t_a_l_l
- _A_u_t_o_m_a_t_i_c_a_l_l_y button. To install a different set of
- subsystems, click the _C_u_s_t_o_m_i_z_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n button and make
- your new selections. Then click the _S_t_a_r_t button to launch
- the installation.
-
- Note: The listed subsystem sizes are approximate. Refer to
- the _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_o_r'_s _G_u_i_d_e for
- information on finding exact sizes.

- 2.3 _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__M_e_t_h_o_d
-
- All of the subsystems for the Netscape Administration Server
- can be installed using IRIX. You do not need to use the
- miniroot. Refer to the _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_o_r'_s
- _G_u_i_d_e for complete installation instructions.
-
- 2.4 _C_o_n_f_i_g_u_r_a_t_i_o_n__F_i_l_e_s
-
- There are several configuration files in this product. The
- first is /_e_t_c/_c_o_n_f_i_g/_n_s__a_d_m_i_n and is controlled by the state
- of the _c_h_k_c_o_n_f_i_g command. The value is either on or off
- telling whether the Administration server should be started
- automatically on system reboot or not started and thus
- started manually.
-
- The next file is /_e_t_c/_i_n_i_t._d/_n_s__a_d_m_i_n which starts and stops
- the administration server. In general you should not need
- to edit this file.
-
- The next file is the administration server's password file.
- This is located in /_u_s_r/_n_s-_h_o_m_e/_a_d_m_s_e_r_v/_a_d_m_p_w and currently
- ships with _a_d_m_i_n as the administration password. Notice the
- password is stored in an encrypted form. Once you begin
- administering your system you should configure a different
- administration server password using the administration
- forms in your administration server.
-
- 2.5 _F_i_l_e_s__N_o_t__L_i_s_t_e_d__b_y__vvvv_eeee_rrrr_ssss_iiii_oooo_nnnn_ssss
-
- This version of the Netscape Administration server creates
- files not listed by _vvvv_eeee_rrrr_ssss_iiii_oooo_nnnn_ssss. They mimic the _i_n_s_t config
- files in their behavior. When the new version is installed,
- it creates the following file if the file of the same name
- exists at time of installation:
-
- ////uuuussssrrrr////nnnnssss----hhhhoooommmmeeee////aaaaddddmmmmsssseeeerrrrvvvv////nnnnssss----aaaaddddmmmmiiiinnnn....ccccoooonnnnffff....NNNN
-
- This file is the default configuration file for the
- administration server. It can usually be safely removed. If
- you replace the _n_s-_a_d_m_i_n._c_o_n_f file with the '.N' file, you
- will need to stop and start the admin server by the command
- /_e_t_c/_i_n_i_t._d/_n_s__a_d_m_i_n _s_t_a_r_t|_s_t_o_p.
-
- 2.6 _G_e_n_e_r_a_l__I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__I_n_f_o_r_m_a_t_i_o_n
-
- This version of the Netscape Administration server comes
- pre-installed and pre-configured.
-
- Note: The Netscape 2.12 Administration Server is
- incompatible with the 1.12 Administration Server. If
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- - 3 -
-
-
-
- you have any 1.12 Netscape servers running you should
- reinstall them after installing the 2.12
- Administration Server and relocate the 1.12 server to
- a different server root.
-
- In the forms used to administer the Netscape servers, there
- are two user accounts that are mentioned. One is a Unix
- user account and must appear in the /etc/passwd file while
- the other is the Netscape Admin Server user and does not
- exist in the password file, but in the /_u_s_r/_n_s-
- _h_o_m_e/_a_d_m_s_e_r_v/_a_d_m_p_w file. The Unix user account is the one
- used to run the server process and has a default of root.
- If you use the nobody user make sure that the value of the
- user id and group id is 60001 and not a negative number.
- Also make sure that nobody has write access to the files and
- directories needed by the admin server. These include all
- the admin configuration directories, files and log files,
- and all administered server configuration directories and
- files. Since these files and directories are installed owned
- by root.sys, as root, you must change the ownership to
- nobody.nobody before successfully running the admin server
- as nobody.
-
- Configuration of the Netscape Servers images requires the
- use of the Netscape Navigator as a graphical front end for
- the configuration process. If you are installing these
- images on a CHALLENGE S or other SGI server system you are
- required to have an X terminal or workstation with an X
- windows display capability accessible from the server.
-
- If you install another Netscape Server you must restart the
- admin server before the admin server will be able to
- configure the new server.
-
- For more details on configuring and administering your
- Netscape Servers, see the online help available from the
- administration server.
-
- 2.7 _F_i_n_a_l__I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__I_n_f_o_r_m_a_t_i_o_n
-
- The Netscape server products share a common administration
- server when more than one Netscape server is installed on
- the same machine. This administration server must be
- running in order to administer your Netscape server. Upon
- installation this administration server is not configured to
- automatically start when the system is rebooted. If you
- wish the server to be started on reboot then do the
- following:
-
- #### cccchhhhkkkkccccoooonnnnffffiiiigggg nnnnssss____aaaaddddmmmmiiiinnnn oooonnnn
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
-
- - 4 -
-
-
-
- If you do not do this, then you will have to start the
- administration server by hand in order to administer your
- netscape servers. To start the server by hand execute the
- following command:
-
- #### ////uuuussssrrrr////nnnnssss----hhhhoooommmmeeee////ssssttttaaaarrrrtttt----aaaaddddmmmmiiiinnnn
-
- 2.7.1 _A_u_t_o_-_C_o_n_f_i_g_u_r_a_t_i_o_n__o_f__t_h_e__A_d_m_i_n__S_e_r_v_e_r
-
- Upon installation of the admin server and each time the
- command /etc/init.d/ns_admin start is run, the admin server
- checks to see if any key system information has changed.
- This information is the host name, IP address, and domain.
- If so these changes are made to the configuration files in
- the product. The command to do this is
- /usr/ns-home/sgi_config/admin/configure. This script must be
- run by hand if the admin server is not chkconfig'ed on and
- any of these system parameters change. The admin server must
- then be restarted.
